: How old is too old to still be using a pacifier? My 3.5 year old doesn't go to sleep without his. We tell him he's a big boy and he doesn't need it, but once bedtime comes, he can't live without it. Now, I've heard of plenty of kids that suck their thumbs for years, so I'm not terribly concerned. However, I do want him to stop some day. Thanks!

My son is 20 months old and uses his pacifier when he sleeps or during stressful times. I was under the impression that they could use a pacifier until the age of 3 without problems...but my doc told me that he would prefer that my son give it up now. He told me he could have dental problems later due to the pacifier. I think all docs are different on this, but my son is chewing his pacifiers to bits...so much so that I am throwing out one a day!! So we are working on getting him off it now!! Talk to your doc and dentist to see what they recommend.

Best of luck.
